Re: Radeon RX 6900 XT Power Limit. Power consumption goes up very non-linearly with clock speed. Having triple 8-pin connectors lets people who enjoy spending a lot of time searching for the limits of overclocking do so without worrying about input power. For a normal person who does a modest overclock at most, it's pointless. 6900 XT - poor overclock. Benchmark. I have a nitro + 6900 XT. Power limit set to +15, and junction temps are kept low not even pushing 90c. I am just trying to overclock the core, memory is at defaults. I cannot get this to run timespy stable without a lot of voltage. I see people who are getting good scores are able to get down around 1080. The Strix 6900 XT has 3x8pin power connectors but is limited to 330W, not sure if it's by drivers or an AMD mandate that all cards be power capped. My Red Devil 6900 XT (also 3x8 pin) is also capped at that limit despite the product page advertising 480W; a PowerColor rep on their forums said they tasked their BIOS team with looking into it. AMD recommends a 700Watt power supply for the 6900 XT for 2x8pin connectors. RX 6900 XT Red Devil for instance has 3x8pin power connectors. Maybe it is because of the 3 pins? Either way all 6900 XT's have the same power limit lock in the driver. they will not exceed the power limit despite how many power 8pin connectors they have.
By pushing the power limit, OC enthusiasts have achieved a maximum overclock of 2760 MHz. That is much better than what the reference card can do (around 2450 MHz). Thermals. The RX 6900 XT Gaming X Trio pulls in a lot of power. This makes sense, considering you have to connect it with three 8-pin connectors.
